A current issue between The United States Federal Government and American Indians is the issue of the Indian Healthcare Improvement Act (IHIA). Joe Garcia, the president of the NCAI or National Congress of American Indians came to Washington D.C. for a reauthorization of the IHIA which is to include an overall better healthcare package for Indian tribes or communities as well as the abuse of methamphetamines. These two groups have been taking actions to eliminate a current growth trend of meth abuse. The NCAI and the National Conference of State Legislature have worked together for several years promoting intergovernmental cooperation between states and tribes. This was known as the State-Tribal Relations Project. The Indian tribes and the states of this country share several common interests, including fair use of resources such as education, healthcare, and law enforcement. The connection between the federal government of this country and the government of Native American tribes is very important to ensuring that Native Americans receive everything that they are entitled to.
