Key Terms: (Know definitions, be able to discuss.) 1. program: a set of instruction that tells the computer how to solve a problem or perform a task. 2. programming language use words instead numbers, were invented to ease the task of programming. 3. input / output input: information a program collects from the outside world. Output: information that a program sends to the outside world. 4. Stream An abstraction that connected a device on which input & output operations are performed. Stream can basically be represented as a source or destination of characters of indefinite length. 5. Identifier A programmer defined name for some part of a program: variables, functions, etc… 6. Scope The scope of a variable: the part of the program in which the variable can be accessed A variable cannot be used before it is defined 7. Block A group of related statements enclosed in braces. 8. Variable A named storage location in memory. Has a name and a type of data it can hold
