1 ECED3201: Introduction to Electronics Fall 2009 Dalhousie University, Department of Electrical and computer Engineering Assignments #3 Problem 1 A 60-Hz sinusoidal signal of 7.5-Vrms, obtained from the power outlet is used as an input to a bridge rectifier with a filtering capacitor. The average load current is expected to be 10mA. Use a constant voltage model with V D = 0.7V for the diodes. a. Find the ripple voltage, the average output dc voltage, the peak inverse voltage (PIV), and the peak and the average currents through the diode, if a 47- F filtering capacitor is used in the circuit. b. Choose a standard capacitor value for C, if the average output dc voltage of at least 9 V is required. With the chosen value for the capacitor, find the ripple voltage, the average output dc voltage, and the peak and the currents through the diodes. c. Check if the diode 1N4933 is suitable for your circuit by verifying only that your diodes comply with the parameters V RRM , I F(AV) , P D given in the data sheet
