Adolescence 4/6/2010 Trends in US Teen Sexual Behavior Trends from 1991 to 2007: o The percentage of high school students reporting intercourse dropped by 6 percentage points (from 54% to 48%) o Higher percentage of students reported using condoms during last intercourse (from 46% to 62%) o Lower percentage of students had intercourse with 4 or more people during life (from 19% to 15%) Trends from 1991-2005 o Decrease in percentage of student’s currently sexually active-had intercourse with one or more people during the last 3 months (from 38% to 35%) o Alcohol or drug use before last sexual intercourse Increased, 1991-2001 No change, 2001-2007 US Teen Sexual Behavior--2007 Gender Differences: o Did not use a condom during last intercourse (females 45%, male 32%) o Had intercourse with 4 or more people during life (females 12%, males 18%) o Ever had sexual intercourse (females 46%, males 50%) In 2005 there were no gender differences (47%) o No gender differences in Were currently sexually active (35%) Racial and Ethnic Difference: o Order from more to fewer adolescents is Black, Hispanic, White:
