Current Stage of Behavior Change : Contemplation Stages of Change Pre-contemplation  – Not considering changing a behavior any time in the foreseeable future.  Unaware /underaware  of their problems.  Contemplation  – Person becomes aware that change is desirable but has not committed to act.  Focuses on why it  would be difficult to change. Preparation  – Desires changes and commits to making change in next 30 days.  Focus on what is needed to begin  Action  – Plan is implemented.  New environmental supports are adopted.  Obstacles are expected, and strategies to  overcome are implemented. Maintenance gains from change. Termination  – Person is not tempted to return to previous behavior.
