IMPACTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON PUBLIC RELATIONS 1 PUBLIC RELATIONS DISSERTATION PROPOSAL IMPACTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON PUBLIC RELATIONS Presented by: Student number: Date
IMPACTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON PUBLIC RELATIONS 2 Introduction Social media has been of great significance in promoting public relations for individuals and persons. Many companies and artists have used the social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snap Chats to post advertisements and to collect reactions from their audience for the purpose of maintaining their good public image. Social media has also facilitated the linking of different people from all parts of the world, creating a global village. This has created an avenue for the promotion of public relations for different persons and individuals and especially those who run the international business (Allagui & Breslow, 2016). However, social media has impacted the public relations in different ways, some being positive and others being negative (Brown, 2009). The main reason for choosing to study this topic is because of the increasing use of social media among different populations and different business entities. I feel that social media is overtaking all other means used earlier, such as the use of hard copy magazines and newspapers. Some companies, corporations, and parastatals have widely used social media to advertise their productions because social media attracts a number of the audience. The main objective of this study is to examine the impacts of social media on public relations. It seeks to answer the questions: How has social media promoted public relations? What are the positive impacts of social media on public relations? What are the negative effects of social media on public relations? The research hypotheses are; 1. Social media has promoted public relations; 2. Social media has negatively affected public relations. The null hypothesis is; social media has not impacted on public relations in any way.

I will ensure that I seek the participant’s consent before the study and observe confidentiality and objectivity in the whole research. Researchers are required to seek the consent of the respondents before using them for the study and should use all means possible to avoid engaging the participants in the study forcefully. Secondly, researchers are required to maintain confidentiality in the research by avoiding disclosure of the private information about the respondent to the wrong audience (ASA, 1999). To ensure confidentiality, private information about the participants, such as the name, identification card numbers, and emails, will not be collected. A prior notice to seek the participant's consent will be provided; those who are not willing will not force to participate. I will also avoid personal questions that are likely to emotionally harm the participants. To achieve
