Steven McCarthy International Relations Due Mon. 30 Chapter 6 Homework 1. The cause of the cold war was the division of the two main super powers  in the world during this era. The United States that led the ideas of  democracy and capitalism.  And the Soviet Union under the ideas of  Communism. These two almost opposite political systems. Which has  accounted for most of the conflict between the two nations. Thus causing  the cold war.    2. The United States was able to gain the support of the United Nations in  the Korean war was because the Soviet Union had been boycotting the  security council meetings, leaving them out of the way the United States
