Wk 4, Sept 30-Oct 6: Leadership and Cultural Synergy Leadership synergy is required for working across several cultures. With that type of leading you will find a more collaborative or collective/inclusive decision process with attention to an attitude of learning as people face issues and problem solve (not blame). It all comes down to a manager who leads by embracing difference. This can be hard, who deliberately seeks out things that are different? Leaders do and should. With diversity comes different frames of reference, perspectives, approaches, thought patterns, and experiences. These can be leveraged to create new ideas, products, services, problem resolutions and means to solve conflicts. Are there a set of “competencies” that can help leaders in this environment? Yes! These leader competencies include: • Relationship Competence • Interpersonal acumen • Openness to new experiences • Psychological readiness • Recognizing privilege • Ethnic Identity achievement
