Introduction Paragraph - FORMAT HAS THREE PARTS A. Hook – The purpose of “the hook” is to pique the interest of the reader. It “generally” introduces the topic of your paper. Example hooks: 1. Start the paper with a question that introduces the subject. Then, answer the question. 2. Start your paper with a general statement that addresses all of mankind. Throughout the years,… Many people have experienced. .. In every person’s life,… History teaches us that… B. Background Information - Write two to three sentences on background. Example background sentences: A brief summary sentence that explains what the story is basically about- Introduce the main characters that you will be writing about in the paper Information about the author, but only if it pertains to the subject of this paper Information about the setting, but only if it pertains to the subject of the paper
