Sonnet: 14 line poem with a specific rhyme scheme; ends in a couplet 2/15/11 Summary Act 1, Sc. 1 Setting: in the street (Verona, Italy; 14th century) Sampson and Gregory are teasing each other and joking around about what they would do to the people who are a part of the Montague household, especially the women. They say they are ready and willing to fight any Montague. 2/15/11 Sampson and Gregory bite their thumbs at the Montague servants to provoke a fight. Thats equivalent to, perhaps, sticking your middle finger up at someone, daring them to do something about it. They fight. Benvolio the peacemaker- (Romeos cousin) tries to break up the fight. 2/15/11 Tybalt the hot head- (Juliets cousin) starts a fight with Benvolio, calling him a coward. He says he hates the word peace, just like he hates Hell, all Montagues, and Benvolio. Tybalt is Benvolios FOIL.
