MEMORANDUM Date: October 14, 2010 To: Sales Representative Staff From: Sara Newell, General Manager Subject: Please Read Our Sexual Harassment Policy ______________________________________________________________________________ Southern Life Insurance has a sexual harassment policy, which in conjunction with Federal and State law, is meant to promote a healthy and safe work environment. I have attached our policy and encourage you to read through it in order to understand its conditions. Why are we being asked to read the sexual harassment policy? I have received complaints about jokes and stories being told in the office that have led others to feel uncomfortable. I realize that the jokes were not meant to be offensive; however, without proper knowledge of the context and because our employees come from diverse backgrounds, jokes are inappropriate in the workplace. What is considered sexual harassment? Telling jokes may not be a case of direct, “quid pro quo” harassment, but it is a form of “condition
