The Problem With more than 50,000 students, there is a shortage of parking spaces on the University of Florida campus. There is a great demand for additional parking facilities to accommodate the growing population of students and faculty members. Currently, faculty and staff must pay $1,014 to purchase an annual, “Official Gated” parking decal and students must pay $134 for an annual, “Park and Ride” decal. Charging high fees is acceptable because parking is so limited. However, if the availability of parking is increased, the University can offer their students and faculty members these spaces at a reduced cost. Also, there is a lack of parking lots available for students who live off-campus. UF’s Facts and Rankings state that in 2008, there were 7,553 students living on-campus and approximately 42,300 students living off-campus. The majority of students attending the University of Florida live off-campus; therefore, there should be more
