Setting the Permissions for the Root Directory 1. You need to set up the correct permissions for the root directory. 2. Open Secure Shell Client: Start All Programs SSH Secure Shell Secure File Transfer 3. Click on the Quick Connect button. 4. Enter Host Name: mason.gmu.edu 5. Enter your User Name (your Mason Cluster user name). 6. Click the Connect button. 7. Enter your Mason Cluster password. If you do not remember your password, redo the steps contained in “how to set up Mason Cluster account password” posted under “Course Home” page.

Period refers to the root directory. Also, note the space before and after 711 11. Press the Enter key. The blinking cursor should be on the new prompt. 12. Type command ls al 13. Press the Enter key. You should be able to see drwxrxrx in the second row against the dot (.) directory. Repeat steps 10 -13 if you your permissions are different from what is shown in the screenshot....
