5G Technology Integration I. Abstract Drastic developments in wireless and mobile technology have led to the development of 5G. 5G wireless technology, as a novel development is expected to offer a very high bandwidth. The high bandwidth is useful in reducing transmission delays. In order to establish how 5G technology can be integrated in the current infrastructure, an understanding of the architecture of 5G is necessary. This paper therefore focuses on exploring the architecture of 5G wireless network technology. II. Introduction The last decade experienced tremendous advances in air-interface design that resulted in a drastic improvement in link level spectrum efficiency. These advances led to a remarkable development in mobile and wireless technology [5]. For instance, WLAN adapter technologies were integrated in mobile phones. However, what is of much interest in the advancement of mobile and wireless technology is the development of 5G wireless technology. It is projected that more than 3% of network-based mobile communications service providers will incorporate 5G networks as part of their service provision infrastructure. In this case 5G wireless technologies will be used for such uses as supporting internet of things communications, provision of fixed wireless access as well as providing high definition video for entertainment [5]. 5G wireless technology, as a novel development is expected to offer a very high bandwidth. The high bandwidth is useful in reducing transmission delays. In addition to increased speed, 5G technology features increased capacity, improved performance and a perfect wireless network that will allow devices to connect and share content wirelessly regardless of the distances and the type of mobile device [5]. In fact, the 5G wireless technology is built to have a latency of less than 1 millisecond. The low latency is will be very fundamental for use in modern technologies such as self-driving cars and robot-aided surgery. Generally, the new sophisticated and powerful features of the 5G technology make more powerful than present wireless technologies such as 4G and present a case for its anticipated high demand in future applications. The figure below shows 5G in the hype curve. Fig. 1: Hype Cycle Curve One thing of particular importance is that 5G wireless technology is based on 4G wireless technology. 4G technologies have been successful in aiding a perfect integration of GSM and 3G technologies. Unfortunately, 4G technologies do not effectively support required security mechanisms and operating systems. The 5G technology will therefore provide solutions

2 that would support all operating systems and security mechanisms. 5G technology is in itself a real global wireless infrastructure that would provide, in addition to the enormous data capabilities, infinite data broadcast and limitless call volumes. With the use of 5G, customers should expect an addition of services and wireless benefit packages on top of the tremendous services already provided by 4G. Most importantly,
