1 ENC 1102 Spring 2009 Rhetorical Analysis Assignment Instr. Mauro Carassai Important Dates Draft Due: Friday, 01/30 Final Due: Monday, 02/02 Purpose To analyze how a particular text (either written or visual) exhibits the rhetorical appeals we discussed in class (ethos, logos, or pathos) and construct a strong thesis-based argument identifying the effectiveness of those appeals. Audience A general audience well educated but unfamiliar with the subject matter you are analyzing. 3 page document with: double-spaced Times New Roman 12-point font, syllabus-specified heading, page numbers and stapled. Also, you must attach a copy of your peer review in order to receive credit. Grading Criteria In order of importance, your grade will be based upon how successful you: 1. Analyze the effectiveness of the author’s usage of rhetorical appeals (logos, pathos, ethos); remember to answer the question: how well does the author persuade his/her audience using logos, pathos, or ethos? (40 pts.)
