Prehistoric: Vocabulary axis.   an imaginary straight line about which parts of a building or a group of  buildings are arranged. elevation.   a drawing of a vertical slice at some imagined plane to show any one  side of a structure. plan.   a drawing of a horizontal slice through a structure at some imagined plane. section.  a drawing of a vertical slice through a structure at some imagined plane. cairn.   a pile of stones that served both as a prehistoric buirial site and as a  marker of underground tombs. dolmen.   a prehistoric structure made up of two or more large (often upright)  stones supporting a large, flat, horizontal slab called a capstone. henge.   a circle of stones or posts often surrounded by a ditch with built-up  embankements.  megalith.   built of huge, irregular stones, menhir.   a prehistoric monument in the form of a single, large, upright stone. arranged in straight rows known as alignments or circles known as cromlechs.
