BUAD 304 – 14723 TA: Tolan Chapter 5: The Nice Trap? 1. Do you think there is a contradiction between what employers want in employees (agreeable employees) and what employees actually do best (disagreeable employees)? Why or why not? I think there is quite a contradiction because this article specifically says that agreeable employees are not better job performers and will ultimately be less successful than employees who are not very agreeable. Obviously every employer wants a candidate who is respectful and open to everybody that he/she meets but in the long run studies show from this article that these “nice” employees will not do as well as their counterparts in their careers. Agreeable people earn less money so for whatever reason people who are not agreeable may very well be better job performers which results in their higher salary. 2. Often the effects of personality depend on the situation. Can you think of some job situations in which agreeableness is an important virtue? And in which is it
