Com 1000 study guide 1. The 100% rule- everyone agrees in persuasion. Few speakers achieve 100% (pg. 111) 2. The 180 degree rule- few people will change their opinions around 180 degrees. Expecting a total change of an opinion is unrealistic ( pg.111) 3. Sleeper effect- people plant seeds in your mind or doubt to let them grow over time. They feed them w regular reminders, and then try a major persuasive push after awhile. Ex. Politicians run for office 2 to 3 years in advance before election. Year 1 name recognized. 2 raise funds. 3. Hammer home messages or ideas. 112 4. Salience- most persuasion revolves around salience. Tend to pay attention to messages that are important to you. The more salient a message is the more likely youll pay attention, interpret it and change attitude or behavior 112 5.
