Experiment 9: Field-Effect Transistors Introduction: The purpose of this lab report is to inform the lab assistant that I’ve worked through the lab and gained an adequate amount of experience in doing so. The information in this lab deals with field-effect transistors and a CMOS inverter. Objective: The main objective of this lab is to characterize field-effect transistors as well as observe a CMOS inverter. Procedure: First, we connected the FET chip to the breadboard. We then connected a 100kΩ resistor to pin 3 making that our Gate. We then grounded pin 5 and connected a 10kΩ resistor to pin 4, Drain, as well as connecting it to a 5-volt source. Next, we connected a 5-volt source to pin 14 and grounded pin 7. Once this was done, we calculated the voltage drop across the 10kΩ resistor. Second, we made a “depletion”-mode field transistor. We then measured the voltage at the Gate and the Drain inputs as we varied the voltages from -5-volts to 0-volts in .5 increments. We then computed the Drain current.
