Politics 10 a Introduction to Political Theory Professor Bernard Yack Olin-Sang 108 (6-2640) [email protected] Office Hours: Thursdays 10:00 - 12:00 This course is designed to provide an introduction to the identification and critical analysis of some of the fundamental problems of political life. It proceeds by way of a careful reading of a small number of texts selected from the classic works in political philosophy and literature. Although the readings and lectures are organized, for the most part, chronologically, the main emphasis in both lecture and discussion in tutorial sections will be on the issues raised by the readings rather than on their historical significance. Course Requirements Students will write two short papers (6-7 pages each) plus a final exam, each worth approximately one third of the grade. The first paper will be due October 5, the second on November 12. Discussion sections are mandatory; your participation there can help improve your final grade.
