LAB #5 PHET Friction Melting Lab Objective: The main purpose of this lab was to understand how friction between two materials could cause them to heat up and melt. Procedure: I first opened up the friction lab program from the phet website. Then before I started any questions I made myself familiarize with the friction simulation lab. I then started to do question 2 by rubbing the two books together. I then, started doing question 3, I rubbed the books together and noted down how rubbing the books when they are in contact which each other affects the temperature. Then, I reset the simulation and rubbed the books together until they lost some atoms. Results: Cause Temperature Atoms When books are moved left and right without any contact. No change in temperature No change in bouncing of the atoms. When rubbing the books together Increases in temperature Atoms start to bounce a lot When stopped rubbing the books together. Decrease in temperature
