Benedict Arnold was one of the infamous traitors of the United States. He once was an early American hero in the Revolutionary War, but switched sides and fought for the British. Some say that his cruelty may have been because of his depressing childhood, and some people think it was his wife that influenced him and some blame it on money, for he was a businessman. Whatever the case may be, Benedict was a trader to the United States. So the question is, “was his legacy respectable?” On January 14, 1741, in Norwich Connecticut, a baby boy was born. His name was Benedict Arnold. Benedict Arnold’s father’s side was wealthy, in which his great-great- grandfather founded Rhode Island, and his great-grandfather was elected governor of Rhode Island 5 times. Benedict’s father was a cooper who moved to Connecticut in 1730, and later met Hannah Waterman, Benedict Arnold’s mother. As a child, Benedict Arnold and his sister were the only children of his parents' six children to survive through childhood. Benedict Arnold was a bold, fearless, child who enjoyed physical activity.
