Practice Exam SOC 100 NAME_________________________________ Match the statement to the theory: A. Our social world is based on a competition for resources. Those with the resources are those with the power—to hold others down, to define the world for the rest of us. The sociologist can never forget that American society is ruled by a bunch of old white men, and that this power will pervade every interaction that is studied. B. Our social world is created through interaction. We live in a world of symbols, and objects only have meaning when people share the same understanding of its symbolic nature. The sociologist can never forget that it is not the actual organization of the social world that impacts the individual, it is the way the individual interprets their world that influences their self. C. Our social world is like a complex organism. The various systems (education, politics, etc.) work together to make life flow. Each system exists because it has a purpose, though it is possible for the organism to ‘get sick,’ so to speak. A sociologist can never forget that humans are a part of this larger system, and that our behaviors can be traced back to what purpose it serves to greater society. ______1. Symbolic Interactionism
