HK 253 Principles of Motor Development Spring semester 2010 Instructor: Dr. Laura Claxton Office Hours: Thursdays: 3:00-4:00pm LAMB 304A and by appointment 496-2293 ljclaxton@purdue.edu Course Description This course is intended to provide an introduction to motor development from a life-span perspective. You will learn how infants develop from mainly reflexive beings into children and adults that are capable of interacting with the world in a goal directed manner. We will specifically examine how changes in physical growth, aging, and central nervous system maturity influence motor performance. Finally, we will discuss the decline of motor skills associated with advanced age. Course Evaluation There will be 3 midterm exams and a cumulative final exam. The midterm exams will combined be worth 45% of your final grade. The final exam will be worth 25% of your final grade. The remaining 20% will come from four class assignments (5% each) and surprise quizzes (10%). Midterm examination #1 15% Midterm examination #2 15% Midterm examination #3 15% Four class assignments (5% each) 20% Surprise quizzes 10% Final exam (cumulative) 25% Midterms / Exams There will be no makeup exams without a valid doctors note. To be fair to all students I will not discuss possible exam questions during office hours. These questions should be addressed during lecture, so that all students receive the same information. I will not respond to email questions regarding the exams. Quizzes
