Newcomer Contact Information : office: Lambert - Room 8A hours: T & TH 8:00-9:00am, or by appt. phone: 496-2612 e-mail: [email protected] __________________________________________________ Course Description This course is designed to increase students’ knowledge of exercise physiology by building on key concepts introduced in Exercise Physiology I (HK 368) and other related courses. The course will focus on acute and chronic adaptations to exercise in both healthy and diseased populations. The format of the class will be that of a lecture. However, student participation in the lecture will be encouraged through question and answer periods. Material for this course will be derived from both assigned reading (Powers textbook) and recently published peer reviewed articles. Discussion of these articles will allow the students to focus on the most pertinent research questions being addressed by exercise physiologists today. This course is offered only to students that have previously taken Exercise Physiology I (HK 368). Course Material Powers, S.K. and Howley, E.T. Exercise Physiology: Theory and Application to Fitness and Performance. Brown and Benchmark Publishers/Times Mirror Higher Education Group, Dubuque, IA, 7 th edition, 2009. Course Evaluation 10% Attendance 15% Quizzes 15% Grant 30% Midterm Exam 30% Final Exam Attendance (10%) Daily attendance is a critical component to successfully passing this course, since much of the material that will be covered in lecture is not derived from your assigned readings. Therefore, attendance will be taken on a regular basis during the last 5 minutes of class. The course policy is that there are no excused absences accepted since missing a class for an emergency or school sponsored activity will only impact your grade by . 333%.
