8/27/2010 S.R. DiNardi © 6 Toxins vs CA Toxins Natural origin Production is difficult Non-volatile More toxic One dermally active Legitimate medical use Diverse toxic effects Immune response Aerosol delivery Chemical Agents Man-made Industrial sources Volatile Less toxic All agents dermally active None other than weapons Fewer types of effects Poor immune response Mist/droplet/aerosol delivery

8/27/2010 S.R. DiNardi © 7 Because toxins are not volatile, as are chemical agents, and with rare exceptions, do not directly affect the skin, an aggressor would have to present toxins to target populations in the form of respirable aerosols, which allow contact with the more vulnerable inner surfaces of the lung. This, fortunately, complicates an aggressor's task by limiting the number of toxins available for an arsenal.
