Scatterplots A Scatterplot shows the relationship between two quantitative variables measured on the same individuals. We think that one variable (the explanatory variable ) explains the variation in values of the other variable (the response variable ). We think percent taking the SAT explains the variation in average SAT scores. We think that distance of a putt explains the success rate.
