2 Introduction to Time Series Plots Main Idea: These plots show measurements that are gathered over time. When this is the case, it is wise to examine how the data is affected by time, and not just lump all the data together. These plots make it possible to see how the measurements change with time. These plots can be used to check that a sample is, in fact, random. These plots are sometimes called “sequence plots.” Lab 2

3 Lab 2 Time Series Much of the data we see in graphs in the newspaper is time series data, where the measurements were taken over time. Examples: unemployment data, stock data, crime rates, educational test scores. We look for both overall patterns and deviations from the patterns.
