Courtney Arnold Patriarchal terrorism is when the father figure begins to terrorize the family. Steve  Van Keuren became the father figure for Teri's children when they father passed  away in a tragic accident. He became very involved in their lives until Teri and his  breakup. That was his breaking point. He believed they should be together even  if that meant killing her and himself.  Once their breakup, Van Keuren tried many different types of patriarchal  terrorism. He would intimidate Teri by sitting in his car and watching her at home  and at her son's baseball games. He tried to coerce and threaten Teri into being  with him with butcher knives and multiple phone calls hourly. She was terrified for  her life and no one did anything to save her. The emotional abuse Teri suffered  was unnecessary because the police could have easily arrested Van Keuren,
