POL419 Final Paper Template & Instructions Your final paper is to be approximately 10 pages in length (excluding tables, figures, and references). It should follow normal (MLA) formatting rules. (See the Purdue Online Writing Lab for details.) The paper will consist of 4 primary parts – the introduction, research design, presentation and discussion of the results, and a conclusion. Follow this basic template 1 as you work toward producing your final paper. 1. The Introduction 1.1. Statement of your research question 1.2. Review and discussion of relevant literature 1.2.1. Identification of key explanatory forces 1.3. Clear statement of over-arching hypothesis – an educated guess regarding the answer to your research question 2. Research design 2.1. Description of data 2.1.1. What are they 2.1.2. What are their sources 2.2. Identification of the variables 2.2.1. What is the concept of the DV, & how is it measured 2.2.2. What are the concepts of the IVs, & how are they measured 2.3. Statistical description of the data 2.4. Statement of hypothesized relationship of each IV w/the DV 2.4.1. Be sure to ground hypotheses in the relevant literature 3. Analysis 3.1. Economic forces 3.1.1. Substantive interpretation 3.1.2. Support for hypotheses?
