Positive Living Unit 5 -Diaphragm effectiveness- When a diaphragm is fitted correctly, and used correctly and consistently, the success rate is fairly high; about 94 percent Criteria for choosing birth control- How important it is not to get pregnant; how successful one can be using the birth control; what method appears to the woman most; take into account her own satisfaction, convenience, side effects, fears, and in most cases, her partner’s cooperation and satisfaction Abstinence- the practice of voluntarily refraining from some or all aspects of sexual activity . Common reasons for practicing sexual abstinence include: religious reasons, conception, and legal injunctions involving conformity Implantation- an event that occurs early in pregnancy in which the embryo adheres to the wall of uterus . At this stage of prenatal development , the embryo is a blastocyst . It is by this adhesion that the fetus receives the oxygen and the nutrients from the mother to be able to grow Conception- is the fusion of gametes to produce a new organism. In animals, the process involves a sperm fusing with an ovum , which eventually leads to the development of an embryo . Depending on the animal species, the process can occur within the body of the female in internal fertilization, or outside in the case of external fertilization.
