(page 288 of your textbook) What are the Sources of Energy for HVAC Systems? Know exactly what they are – their definitions. Heating Interiors – Know the definitions of, and how, heat transfers – convection, radiation, conduction, evaporation. Heating systems – know the difference between the basics, forced air, hydronic, electric, and heat pumps. Cooling systems – know the difference between the two primary types.

Know the difference and definitions between Active and Passive solar heating/cooling systems. Remember the lecture on water usage in building: that hot water faucets are usually located on the left at a sink, and cold water is on the right. Know what LEED stands for and means. Know the Electrical terminology and definitions of each, i.e. amps, volts, ohms, watts, kilowatts Acoustical control – know what a decibel is and some of the items that are rated, i.e. a jet airplane might generate 140 dBs. At what level (decibels) can noise cause pain & discomfort (page 313).
