Letters of reference : The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) protects the privacy of educational information. Purdue University’s staff FERPA Certification Training Manual says: “If a student requests a letter of recommendation from University staff, the student should provide that staff member with an authorization to release information about their educational background.
