Unformatted text preview: Raymond Hupp TA4 Date of Experiment: September 14, 2010 Date of Report: September 20, 2010 PETR 3402 Section 504 Experiment 1: Core Sampling Preparation Executive Summary: In the following first experiment my group and I drilled a specialized core of our choosing and performed several S.C.A.L. test that determined the color, hardness, fluorescence, grain size, sorting, effervescence which were grey, three, speckles, fine sand, well sorted, no fizz accordingly. In the second part of the experiment we observed and tested eighteen ten-foot sections of cores to determine their lithography. By using Mohs Hardness Scale, HCl, Alzerian Red, & previous knowledge, it is determined that plug ones lithography was limestone, plug two was limestone, dolomite, limestone, limestone, anhydrite, anhydrite, limestone, limestone, anhydrite, anhydrite, anhydrite, sandstone, anhydrite, limestone, sandstone, shale, limestone, respectively. It seems that between the Red Raider #1 well drilling from 3660.5 feet 3706 feet you could assume that youll either be in Limestone or a Anhydrite rich zone. Intro: The purpose of this lab was to be able to describe a full-bore sample in terms of its geological and engineering parameters as well as learn to cut and trim core plugs. The second part of the experiment was to get the students familiar at identifying the lithography of certain types of cores for a Red Raider Drilling Rig. By having us very lithography of certain types of cores for a Red Raider Drilling Rig....
