Erica Sturdavant’s Outline I. Thesis statement: Although many feel that it is smarter to buy a home it may not always be the best choice for everyone. Often times renting an apartment can be more cost effective. But each person’s decisions need to be based on their own individual situations. II. The upfront cost of renting is often cheaper than buying a home. A. With renting the upfront cost is usually a deposit and first month’s rent. B. When buying a home a person usually is required to come up with a down payment that can be thousands of dollars. III.The annual costs of owning a house versus renting an apartment can be a determining factor in the decision making process. A. Annual cost of renting includes renter’s insurance which is only about ten dollars a month, and cost of utilities for the rental. Some landlords pay the utilities. When owning you have property taxes, homeowner’s insurance, utilities, homeowner’s dues, and possible irrigation cost.
