Questions: 1 . (a). From Table 1, what is the bond length of the carboxylate C-O bond? (b). Is the bond length of a C-O single bond shorter or longer than the carboxylate C-O bond? (c). Is the bond length of a C-O double bond shorter or longer than the carboxylate C-O bond? (d). On the basis of bond length, describe how the carboxylate C-O bond differs from the C-O single bond and the C-O double bond. (e). Does structure I (Scheme 1) alone explain the experimental fact that both carbon-oxygen bonds of carboxylate ion have identical bond lengths? Explain why or why not. 2.
