Waldon 1 William Waldon Harmon HIS 133 03 september 2019 Benedict Arnold Benedict Arnold was a famous Revolutionary War hero who later became one of the most infamous traitors in U.S. history. In 1776 he hindered the invasion of New York at the Battle of Lake Champlain. In 1779 he had secret negotiations with the British, agreeing to turn over U.S. post at West Point for money and control of the British army. The U.S. found out but he was across British lines at that point. Benedict Arnold was born on January 14, 1741, in Norwich, Connecticut. From 1754 to 1763 he served in the militia in the French and Indian War. He died in London, England on June 14, 1801 at the age of 60. Benedict Arnold was a brigadier general during the Revolutionary War and a very trusted person to George Washington and the Continental army. He proved himself to be brave, and a skilled leader helping Ethan Allen’s troops capture Fort Ticonderoga in 1775. Then taking part in the unsuccessful attack on British Quebec later that year.
