Expository Writing Section LH November 19 th , 2009 In-Class Group Writing Assignment: Cohesiveness - Singer and Mason’s essay picks up w/ “reality” where Tenner’s essay leaves off. It exposes the reality behind the façade of trying to maintain our state of supposed social and technological advancement through vigilance. What are the hints of reality that Tenner gets at: the hints that he exposes about the reality behind the façade of constant vigilance? What does understanding the reality of our mistakes give us; how would we address the reality of our mistakes? - Think about the question of the prompt not as whether we are regressing, but why we have such a fear of regression. We have figured out the fact that when we think we are “regressing” in terms of not moving fast enough in making technological and agricultural changes (as well as political changes, in Loffreda’s and O’Brien’s essays), we only think this because we are actually acknowledging that we have lost something in a certain way:
