Price movements (particularly for stocks) are shown in absolute dollar terms and reflect movements dollar for dollar. Disadvantages : • Arithmetic scale graphs may create a false appearance of acceleration. b) Semi logarithmic Source: Folkehelsa Advantages : ARUMUGAM SHANTHINI GROUP 1 • Semi-log scales are useful when the price has moved significantly, be it over a short or extended time frame • Semi-log scales are useful for long-term charts to gauge the percentage movements over a long period of time. Large movements are put into perspective. Disadvantages : • Use only with continuous data c) Histogram Source : http://www.ct4me.net/Ohio_Graduation_Math_Test_Prep_DataStrand.htm Advantages : • Visually strong • Can compare to normal curve • Usually vertical axis is a frequency count of items falling into each category Disadvantages : • Cannot read exact values because data is grouped into categories • More difficult to compare two data sets • Use only with continuous data d) Frequency polygons ARUMUGAM SHANTHINI GROUP 1 Source : http://cnx.org/content/m10214/latest/http://cnx....
