Tanisha Saini English 106.36 Shutter Island Review 1. This reviewer A. O. Scott begins by stating how significant it is to capture every detail of this movie, in order to understand the plot. For instance, instead of saying ,”Shutter Island takes place off the coast of Massachusetts in 1954. I’m sorry, that should be OFF THE COAST OF MASSACHUSETTS! IN 1954!” For details like this one are very important to comprehend the story. The reviewer also does his research and surfaces the psychological methods used create the movie. “Mr. Scorsese, ever resourceful, draws on the influence of Alfred Hitchcock , the master of carefully orchestrated psychological confusion…” Therefore, due to Shutter Island’s amplification of detail, reviewer Scott constructed a very detailed review to consider all factors of the movie. 2. Scott’s review was very negative for he implies comments such as, “Something TERRIBLE is afoot. Sadly, that something turns out to be the movie itself…” The reviewer feels that the director did a poor job in integrating a message about what he, the director, really cares about or any local issues. Making the movie very insignificant without any conviction or purpose. 3.
