Constantly took courses on the job to prepare for new challenges. Baby boomers clog the workplace by hanging on to the best paid jobs, blocking advancement of younger workers. Cummins Engine Co. hasn’t had a new full timer since 1978. Implications for mgmt: older workforce will cost more in direct wages and significantly increase medical costs. Younger are likely to show frustrations over limited opportunities to get high skilled high pay permanent jobs.
