The Independent Variables (IV) is/are: the Independent Variables are talking on the phone and talking to a passenger in the vehicle. 3. The Dependent Variable (DV) is/are: the driver 4. Were the participants randomly assigned to the conditions? What is the purpose of random assignment? Yes; the purpose of random assignment is to create equality between the groups in the the beginning of the study (Tatum Lecture, 2020). 5. What kind of research design did this study use, i.e., descriptive, correlational, or experimental? Explain your answer. The study used experimental research. Experimental research consists of an independent variable that is manipulated by the experimenter and a dependent variable that is measured (Tatum Lecture, 2020). This study had both, as mentioned in question 2 & 3.
