NEW JERSEY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY ACADEMIC YEAR 2010-2011 SEMESTER 1 ECE251 DIGITAL DESIGN HW 11 1. Show the contents of all locations of a 16 × 4 ROM that will convert each input number to the sum of this input number and 1. Assume that the input number 1111 should be converted to 0000. 2. Show the contents of all locations of a 16 × 4 ROM that will produce the following functions: ( 29 ( 29 ( 29 = = = = 12 , 10 , 9 , 7 , 5 14 , 11 , 10 , 8 , 6 , 5 , 4 , 1 , 0 15 , 14 , 11 , 8 , 1 , 0 ) 15 , 12 , 9 , 7 , 6 , 5 , 3 ( 4 3 2 1 F F F F 3. A 32 × 5 ROM is used as a table look-up multiplier. The input numbers range from binary 0 to binary 15; the output should equal the input number multiplied by 2. Show the contents of all locations. 4. A 6-bit code is to be converted to a second 6-bit code. If a 128 × 8 ROM is used for this conversion, answer the following: a. How many locations will never be accessed? b. How many output lines will be unused? c. How many bits need not be programmed? 5. Realize the expressions: ACD D C B D A F C A ABCD D C B F D C A D C B C B A F + + = + + = + + = 3 2 1 with a. 8 × 1 MUXs.

Unformatted text preview: b. Decoder and gates. c. A ROM.of minimum size. 6. Show the connections of a 6 × 32 × 6 PLA that will produce the functions of Pb. 2. Use a PLA diagram having only an AND plane and an OR plane. 7. Implement a BCD to Gray code converter using a 4 × 16 × 4 PAL. Each PAL output collects 4 different product terms. 8. Use a 4 × 12 × 4 PLA to implement a comparator circuit. The circuit takes two 2-bit binary numbers as inputs, denoted by AB and CD , and computes the four functions AB = CD ( EQ ), AB ≠ CD ( NE ), AB < CD ( LT ), and AB > CD ( GT ). Use a PLA diagram having only an AND plane and an OR plane. 9. Show the connections of the section of a 16L8 PAL required to implement the functions: 1 D C A D C B A Z D C B D C AB D B A ABCD Y + + = + + + = 10. Repeat Pb. 9 on the functions: D C B A ABCD D C B A CD B A Z D ABC BCD A D C B A D C B A CD B A Y + + + = + + + + = 2...
