Ecology Notes February 21 st Global Climate Change. Climate warming from Greenland to Georgia. -Mean temperature as swung up and down by several degrees Celsius over the decades -Inconvenient Truth Video -look at ice, tell you temperature from year bubbles were trapped in the ice -can see where the us congress passed the clean air act -count yearly from the ice layers mounting and re freezing -CO2 concentration is abnormally high, going up exponentially -Late 20 th century increase in global temperature -ten warmest years have been in past century -why warmed so fast in past three decades? - green house affect, enhanced -albedo affect -Greenhouse gasses: water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, CFC, NOx

Unformatted text preview: -by 2050 the average temperature of earth will increase between 1.5-4.5 degrees Celcius- the keeling curve, 315 ppm to 380 ppm, carbon dioxide concentration- in winter, co2 is given off to atmosphere during respiration-during the summer co2 is removed from the atmosphere during photosynthesis-fossil fuel takes carbon out of coal ,oil, and natural gas deposits-1 ton of co2 per person per year-by the end of this century co2 levels will increase by a factor of two times-sea level rise-half the worlds population lives in coast zones-sea levels are and will continue to rise- thermal expansion and glacial melting-conservative models predict .25-2m rise in sea level by 2100...
