INTRODUCTION Now days as we know that the Internet has become the essential factor for the world of business communication and personnel communications. The basic building block of such kind communications is the IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) which is used to construct the network. But using IPv4 for the communications has some limitations. The major drawback of the IPv4 is lack of address space. Using the IPv4, early 2008 nearly about 16% addresses were unallocated of the total address space, but by the review it is figured out that by the 2011 IPv4 address space will run out. This problem was already depicted in early 1990 and at the same time the organization named as Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has started the work on new internet protocol version called as IPv6 in order to overcome the problem of lack of address space. [1][2][3] This new version of IP addresses has various kinds of issues while designing such IPv4 scaling problem solution, flexible transition mechanism, improved routing capabilities, Quality of Service, high Security etc. Thus IPv6 came with many improvements such as increased address space, highly secured, mobility support, enhanced quality of support, more benefits for the end user. But the size of IPv6 data header is double than IPv4 data header which means that IPv6 has extra overhead for the same and hence the performance degradation of the communication system. [4][5] In this project IPv4 and IPv6 performance are compared. The results obtained from the test bed configuration show the theoretical and the real time implementations differences for both the versions of IP. 1. Aims The aim of this project is to present a research on IPv4 and IPv6 network performance evaluation in terms of throughput, delay. Along with this the project also IPv4 and IPv6 Page 2 aims at to show the header data size effects on the performance in case of both the internet protocols. 2. Objectives To create the network topology by using IPv4 and IPv6. To measure and compare the throughput for both IPv4 and IPv6. To measure and compare the delay for both IPv4 and IPv6. Write a report detailing the operational requirement to simulate this research using OPNET modeller 14.5 toolkits. 3. Existing Systems Many researches related to IPv4 and IPv6 performance were conducted by a number of researchers. In the research related to this topic there are number threads addressed during research. But that all wasn’t found the efficient as required. 4. Proposed System Off course, in such type big systems there is possibility of the threats & attacks from the malicious users, so in that case I present Experimental Test bed for the network performance measurement of the IPv4 and IPv6 over a TCP protocol....
