ABSTRACT :- In this project, we study the operation of the interface between the computer and the internet by using the software “WIRESHARK”. By using this software we can observe the interface between the computer and the internet and how it logs itself onto the local area network. Also, we will observe the transfer of data and series of packets when we are trying to log onto our browser’s homepage. Finally, we will observe the port number of the flow, window size and message size when we open a small video of at least two minutes in our browser and we can even observe how wireshark discovers and rectifies the transmission error. INTRODUCTION :- Wireshark is a computer application which captures packets and is mainly used as a network trouble shooting and analysis of protocols. By keeping the network interface into promiscuous mode, wireshark primarily allows the user to observe the traffic between the computer and the network. Wireshark is free software and is available on multiple platforms and can run on various operating systems. Wireshark is a network protocol analyzer, which analyzes the structure of different networking protocols and can able to display the encapsulation of different packets. Wireshark has many features that help to analyze the protocols. Some of its features are Wireshark can capture live packets and it can analyze in offline. It can able to run on multiple platforms like windows, Linux, Solaris, and many others. It has standard three-pane packet browser.
