Test 2 Review Sheet Chapter 3 o Title VII of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 The Civil Rights Act outlawed racial segregation and discrimination in employment, public facilities, and education. Title VII is the most prominent piece of legislation regarding HRM, it states the illegality of discriminating against individuals based on race, religion, color, sex, or national origin. o Equal Employment Opportunity Act (EEOA) Granted enforcement powers to the EEOC o Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) pg. 72-73 The arm of federal government empowered to handle discrimination in employment cases o Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) This act prohibits arbitrary age discrimination, particularly among those over the age of 40. o BFOQs (handout) Job requirements that are “reasonably necessary to meet the normal operations of that business of enterprise.” o Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Extends EEO coverage to include most forms of disability, requires employers to make reasonable accommodations, and eliminates post-job- offer medical exams. o Griggs vs. Duke Power (handout) Landmark Supreme Court decision stating that tests must fairly measure the knowledge or skills required for a job.
