Kevin Lee Ray Pang Period 5 Building a Cloud Chamber Investigation In this lab, we will simulate and witness the cosmic rays, which are subatomic particles, in a small set-up called 'cloud chamber.' These subatomic particles are too small to detect outside of this experiment setting and we will therefore learn about the conditions that are present in the cloud chamber that allows the existence of these cosmic rays. We will also learn about the different properties of dry ice and alcohol that enables the cosmic rays to be formed. Materials Crushed Dry Ice Isopropyl alcohol (91%) Squeeze bottle LED flashlights Safety goggles Aluminum plate Plastic container with clips on the bottom with which felt pad will be secured Method Secure the felt pad with the four clips on the bottom of the chamber (plastic container). Squeeze isopropyl alcohol from the bottle onto the felt pad liberally, so that the pad is saturated but doesn't drip with alcohol. Wipe the sides of the container of any alcohol that might have dripped down. Then place the aluminum
