Kate Wurster 3/23/20 Honors English 2 Research Paper Rough Draft The practice of Hijab has been an important part of Muslim faith and culture for centuries. Hijab was established in the Quran to protect women and men alike. Which means there is much more behind Hijab than women just wearing a headscarf. There are extreme cultural, religious, and traditional meanings behind the practice of veiling as a whole, but specifically the practice of hijab as it relates to Muslims. The word hijab is mentioned 7 times in the Quran, the holy book of Muslims, and it translates to mean something that hides, masks, and protects (Lamrabet, Asma). The hijab is really symbolizing separation between a women’s public and private life. The idea of the hijab is that women only show their faces to people who aren’t in their families, and that they are saving their bodies for their private life. The Quran talks about this also as protecting men from being tempted and distracted by women and their bodies (Killian, Caitlin). Women have been
