2What is InSideOut Coaching?Coaches, at their core, are designed and destined to leave a lasting impact of the ones thatplay for them. This impact can be greatly positive or greatly negative based on what style of coach an individual turns out to be. An InSideOut coach is one that wants to raise the standard far beyond the norm. An InSideOut coach is one that is willing to ask, and answer the difficult questions for their players. They are filled with integrity, discipline, charisma, leadership, and love. However, as Joe Ehrmann states in his book InSideOut Coaching, there is more to coachingthan just having positive qualities. “An InSideOut coach is one who has done this sort of arduousinterior work to answer such critical questions as, Why do I coach? Why do I coach the way I do? What does it feel like to be coached by me? How do I define and measure success?” (Ehrmann, 2011, pp. 8). There is no one single correct way to be someone who coaches from the inside out. What works best in soccer may not be what works best in football. And what works best in a men’s sport very well may not be what works best in a women’s sport.
